Body Language classes are aimed at stress relief and general relaxation. It's yoga that is demystified and culture-free - no chanting and no religious overtones. All pose names are in English, not Sanskrit. You get the ancient wisdom brought into the 21st century Western culture with an emphasis on safety. This is a balanced, total mind-body practice where you'll learn to make your own mind-body connection, in your own way and at your own pace. Come and learn to slow life down and find your inner calm, while you increase your energy, strength, balance, core strength, flexibility and reduce stress.
You don't need to be a Yogi or able to twist your body like a pretzel. This is yoga for people of all ages and fitness levels who want to improve their health and wellness. All classes are for women and men, alike. In fact, yoga is getting popular with the male population. Actors Matthew McConaughey, Dennis Quaid and Tobey McGuire do yoga. Athletes like LeBron James, Evander Holyfield and the LA Lakers also practice yoga. Maybe the most famous male yogis are Sting and Russell Simmons. Yoga can bring benefits that other types of exercise just can't produce.

Body Language classes are taught by Karen L. Polvinale. Karen has been in the fitness industry for over 30 years, starting out as a group fitness instructor in 1983. She earned her personal training certificate in 1995 and is an IDEA Advanced Level Personal Fitness Trainer certified through the American Council on Exercise (A.C.E.) and A.I.F.E. In 2004 she completed yoga teacher training. Karen completed Pre/Post-Natal yoga teacher training in June, 2014.
Karen is also a Certified Reiki Practitioner. Reiki is an energy healing technique that helps relax and purify both the body and the mind. She is also a doTERRA Wellness Advocate. doTERRA provides Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade essential oils and essential oil-based cleaning and skincare products as well as supplements for a healthier life.
YOGA & FITNESS
Each class will take you through a centering & breathing (pranayama) phase, a warm-up for the spine including supine, seated and kneeling poses. We move on to standing poses that first, build some heat, and then strengthen and stretch the body. We follow that with some balance work and then seated, prone and supine deep strengthening and stretching poses. The practice finishes with what I call yoga dessert - Final Relaxation with guided meditation.
We focus on breathing, feeling and listening to our own bodies. We let go of competition, judgment and expectations.
I always advise newcomers to yoga to attend at least 3 classes before deciding whether or not you like yoga. The first class floods you with information on proper breathing and alignment, you're learning names of poses - it can be overwhelming. After you have a few classes under your belt, you'll feel like a yogi.
